Earl John Scratchface
John Scratchface is a larger than life aristocratic character. Impervious to cold, he likes to wander around his castle disrobed, much to the discomfort of his staff. He uses his powerful voice constantly turned up to 11, as did his father before him and his father before that. He has a fine physique and constantly practices his sword fighting technique. An avoid jouster, he has yet to be beaten on horseback. He loves to hunt. His attractiveness to women is legendary, and he has the nickname of Boulderpants for reasons you can probably work out for yourself. He is charming but direct, well loved and admired by all his subjects, but don’t ever offend him. He is fair and recognises in William a talent he can put to use. He is uninterested in frills or adornments, and his castle is plain and utilitarian. He calls an adze an adze, doesn’t suffer fools gladly, and never beats around the bush.
